Continuity properties of translation and similar operations on L^p spaces on R for p in [1,infinity]

For t and x in R let T_t f(x) = f(x+t). In this lecture we  will discuss the continuity properties of T_t at t--> 0 on L^p spaces for any measure on R and for p in [1,infinity]. Some generalisation of this will also be discussed. A good understanding of calculus and some familiarity with measure theory will be enough to follow the lecture. Every attempt will be made to make the lecture understandable.
